Roadster roof spring

Ok, a bit of a weird one.
With the soft top when you unclip it and lift it there is a small piece of sprung steel at the passenger side hinge (at the front) that holds that part open while you then press the button to lower the roof.
On mine the spring is no longer up to holding that part of the roof up so you have to hold it up and press the button. Does anyone know what that spring is or part number ? I've tried looking on realoem but couldn't see it.

Thanks

Z3, Z4? Can you post a picture of it for us to help?

Tony.

actually looking at that it looks like a microswitch so perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree there :(

I don't think there is anything to hold up the roof on a z3 while you push tye button. Had mind since 1998 and have always had to hand push the roof to get the microswitch engaged and the pump running

For various reasons I currently have two Z3s in one I lift the front of the roof and can let go and it will stay up while I reach for the button to lower the roof. In the other I lift the front but have to hold it up otherwise it crashes back down

Is this just a difference between the older roof (pre-faclift without lining) and the newer one?(facelift, with lining)

On mine the roof stays in position to open electronically it sometimes comes down so i guess whatever spring mechanism does this is getting weak. The pic you show looks like the microswitch

On mine (01 3.0i) I have to hold it while I push the switch. I almost never (like maybe 5 times every) drive with the top up. I did a week ago or so and I noticed a springing sound coming from the top, right by my head. I noticed that there was a spring dangling there with a matching dangler on the passenger side. I have no clue what they're for. The first pic shows the spring, the second show's a wider view of where it is in the top.

That one I think is a tensioner going across the lining, I believe there should be a cable connected but they frequently break.

Interesting. Is that side to side or front to back. I saw some parts and a video, but they looked like it was a front to back thing. Do you know what the repercussions are for not having it hooked up?

I could be wrong but I think there's both, front to back holding the roof tight past the side windows and side to side to hold the lining tight
