I'm gearing to change my engine mounts -- the various 'howto' mentions changing the nuts, as they are self locking ones.

Now, normally for my other non-auto projects I just hit ebay and buy the best -- so is it appropriate in this case? M16 A4 (Marine grade) Nylocs will do?

As long as you don't fit them to a galvanised or zinc plated thread you will be ok.

To the best of my knowledge they are not self locking. For a 2.2 at least realoem does not show them as self locking and having just done mine I didn't notice they were self locking.

When I did mine I bought an engine support bar as I didn't want to put a jack under the sump. They are not expensive but I had to build a tower of breeze blocks on either side of the car because a Z3 inner wing won't really support the beam.

You may find you need to remove the mounting bracket from the block to get enough clearance.

For the sake of a few quid I tend to buy load bearing nuts and bolts from a BMW dealer. More often than not no more expensive.
