Hello.

Apologies if posted in wrong place!!

I am at somepoint going to take my outer sills off to view the state of the inner sills and give them a good clean and remove surface rust only hopefully!!!! Then treat them and paint.

What clips/bolts/screws am i likely to break when i do this. Can anyone provide a list which i can buy in preparation of ebay or the likes. (FYI - i am a total amateur to car repairs etc hence dont know names of things that hold the sills on lol)

Many thanks

Neil

You will definitely need some of these for the kick plates https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-BMW-...2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

You might need some of these which the sill bolts screw into https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20x-EXPA...2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

As for replacement clips and bolts it’s best to search about as putting in the part numbers for them come up with greedy sellers on eBay. I did buy some from eBay and on Amazon. Best to use Realoem for looking at part numbers and also the dealer can be cheaper sometimes https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CK92-EUR---Z3-BMW-Z3 M&diagId=41_0035

They are cheap enough from the BMW dealer, also worth considering replacing them with stainless equivilents, I sourced mine from ebay

Great thank you for these. That realoem is a good site too. Means i can talk to the dealers with more info as like you say sometimes not bad prices

Does look like a screw is hidden in the rear arch as well meaning il have to take that off? I was hoping just front wings again and then door kick plates and all the clips and screws over and under the outer sill?!

Thanks

Im possibly thinking of getting fibre glass outer sills as well so never rust again. There is a seller on ebay with this link. Sounds a good idea if mine are done for?!

I'd be very interested in how you get with with these if you decide to get them.

For clips and fasteners, I tend to get them from my local main dealer. You can get exactly the number you need (as opposed to packs you tend to get online) and they're nearly always very reasonably priced. You also get peace of mind the part will fit properly etc.

Stainless replacements posted above would be worth considering for the sills though

Hi Colb

Just going back to this post as this job will be coming when weather is good! Rust treatment on inner sills and tidy up outer sills. (Maybe a zshed job @ Tony if thats possible and/or ive not sorted before the next shed day.

What stainless steel size bolts was it? Pack of 20 as well? You put size for washers but not 100% on bolts if i got them rather than the standard ones from bmw.

Thanks

Neil.
