Due to a hole in the centre box I need to replace the rear end of my 1997 2.8's exhaust. Not looking for anything fancy, just like for like. BMW want £650. Does anyone know of a cheaper source, as this seems to be the same price as a custom built stainless replacement?

Visit a muffler shop and shop their deals, many times using a generic part and not using a factory part can be a huge saving. I replaced my muffler and tailpipe from just before the rear axle with a performance unit (read louder) for about $250 about 10 years ago. There are many variations to choose from, historically, it is the way most folks have a muffler replaced or fixed.

Pay the money and fit a BMW exhaust. They are expensive for a reason, because they work perfectly and last 20 years.
