Ever since I had my Z3 there was a tendency for the driver's window to extend too far. It was caused by the stopper that prevents over extension being misaligned. It had over time caused the window mechanism to break and the root cause was a broken weld. I'd replaced the window mechanism earlier (thanks to @spurs fan in a coupe), without fixing the weld, which I can't do myself, but it didn't quite fix the problem.
So yesterday I stripped down the door once more and my trusted local garage fixed the weld.
I put it all back together (a fiddly but not complicated job) and now it works just fine - door rattles gone and the properly adjusted window when fully extended stops just like it should.
Another small but entirely satisfying job on the road to a better Zed!
Pics show before, after and the broken weld that was the root of the problem.
