Well as those who saw and read I spun off the wet greasy road last Monday and hit the barrie. I drove the car home and it drove perfectly ok bar a small shimmer on the steering where the wheel had picked up a load of dirt in it.
I did phone the insurance company straight away sent pictures of damage. On Wednesday the insurance emailed me to say they were going to write the car off. I won’t go into that again I posted about that in general banter.
so today I have been out done a bit of work around 5 hours and I have the front sorted out to make it road legal ( ok I know it needs a number plate ) but all I’ve done is basically refitted bumper and stuck a head light in her. Sprayed some paint on and that’s it until she goes to body shop to be fixed up properly next year.
So how the devil dose an insurance company get off saying it’s a write off.

An insurance companies repairer would have put a new bonnet, front bumper cover, headlight, rear wing, rear bumper and doubtless a few other parts on it. That is a lot of money in parts before the labour. They wouldn't consider the option of panel beating and repairing.
 
Great this is getting back together so soon. This is the difference between an enthusiast owner and insurance companies. We see the value in the car and the ease of some repairs, they just see repair figures over value from a repair shop that's there to make a living, its understandable. Its just a pity they didn't offer better insurance deals, perhaps a deal that says we wont repair over this cost at the time of selling the insurance and offering a cheaper option (remember the old 3rd party F&T days) you knew exactly where you stood with that option and it used to be a lot cheaper, insurance companies didn't make a lot of money from them though I'd guess.

I agree to a point with that, but a lot of insurance companies also do source good quality parts from breakers now days to keep cost down. This is exactly what I have done. I have bought all brand new front lights and rear, I have bought a really good front bumper and reinforcement bar that fits behind it a pair of new kidney grills. And I’ve bought a really good rust free rear wing. The whole lot is a little over £600 at the moment. So while I agree with you I still have to say it is ridiculous to write a car off for this amount of money. Especially when I was supposed to have had an insurance policy as I thought that should have covered for such repairs.
I suppose that’s what has got my back up more that the damage.
