I have seen quite a few methods of repairing the BMW Z3 seat belt guides on our cars. Here is mine, not as pretty as some but definitely less expensive.

I tried to wedge it to stop it pulling too tight. My fault. This is a cheaper strong repair Dave.

it is obviously a common problem, ive had no issues with mine thank god, mind you, the belt does seem slow on retraction, i figured it was the coil spring but it could well be the guide now that you mention it... i was going to WD the coil unit so i will do that and see if it makes a difference ;-)

DON'T do that Dave, pull the belt right out and clean it with brake cleaner,allow to thoroughly dry then spray liberally with silicone spray and see the difference.
