can any one tell me if ALL z3 have remote locking i have 2 keys but they do not have the remote buttons on them so i was wondering if my car as remote locking or just locks by the key

My Oct 96 M44 had what are called "the brick type" remotes hanging from the key fob, i.e. only button on the keys is for the light to shine on the lock if you use the key at night to open the car.
I have read that the alarms were not ex works but fitted by the dealers.
My car battery drained at one point and after that the alarm refused to work and the only way to fix that was strip out the glove box to get to the module to reset it.
Long story short, could not be bothered doing that so just used the keys.

I think it came standard - remote central locking. Look up your VIN and you should see something like this

Remote keys are expensive and the non-remotes area fraction of the cost. FYI later models came with 4 keys, 2 with remotes.one without, and one plastic key to go in your wallet!

My 97 model is the same as hard top brick and one button on the key is for the light both still work.
