Nobody should of been put through that sort of hell,it wasn’t only their body’s that were broken. My gran found it hard if they got someone well enough to go back into the front for another chance to be slaughtered. My paternal Grandfather, Sadley never met him as he died in '64 two years before I was born. A troubled man by all accounts

RIP fella.
Bad years indeed mate. They all suffered in silence for decades and this impacted massively on their families.Nobody should of been put through that sort of hell,it wasn’t only their body’s that were broken. My gran found it hard if they got someone well enough to go back into the front for another chance to be slaughtered.![]()
Used to keep us kids glued to the dinner table with his stories ....
What I find even sadder is that the peace we live in is taken for granted by so many and the sacrifices made are lost .I know my grandparents wouldn’t want their children to go through it ,after surviving the war to end all wars!My dad passed away at 94 years and my regret is that he wouldn't talk about the war at all, neither also did my Grandfather on my mum's side. I never knew my Paternal Grandfather. In Marton 2 miles away, where I was born and lived till I got married in 1980 there is a memorial in St. Margarets Church Yard to all the local men and boys who lost their lives in the Great War and even as a kid I could read the names of those lost and "attach" them to the local families from the village and surrounding area, I doubt that many still can today and that is very saddening.
Tony.
