Relay Problems

I have a 2001 1.9 Z3 (facelift version).

According to my error code scanner, I have three errors under the heading ABS / ACS / DSC:-
  1. 82 Main Relay Voltage Error
  2. 93 CAN data error from DME/DDE
  3. 94 CAN data error from DME/DDE
The first problem I am having is that I cannot work out which the "Main Relay" actually is. I have found loads of diagrams on the internet, but none of the relay arrangements appear to match mine exactly, and all seem to be for earlier models. I have attached a photo of mine.

The practical problem I have is that the car won't idle - it stalls when I take my foot off the accelerator. The various hoses all look fine, so I am guessing I may have a problem with the idle control valve.

However, my scanner has an option to adjust the idle speed, but it won't let me use it until I clear all the error codes. I thought it might be worth trying that before starting to dismantle things.

Can anyone help me work out which relay is causing the first error and to interpret what they all mean? Presumably the first thing I need to do is to swap it and see if that makes the error(s) disappear.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Have you taken the Idle Control Valve off and cleaned its internals with some carb cleaner, they do get gummed up and stick, worth cleaning it to see if that makes it better. Avoid resetting the idle speed with your scanner until you have tried cleaning it.
The Main relay I think is the one that controls Terminal 15, main ignition circuit, try another relay of the same type in there and check for crusty green terminals. Clean all connections.

If your 2001 1.9L Z3 has the M43 engine, than you need the electrical trouble shooting diagrams for 2000 Great Britain. They are the only ones to cover your engine and are in the "Resources" section of this forum.

The main relay main be referring to the DME Relay (K6300), which is the main relay for the car. It is located in the Right hand side black box under the bonnet/hood. There are location diagrams in the back of the electrical trouble shooting diagrams to help you find stuff.

Thank you! It is an M43. At least I now have the right circuit diagrams etc.

I tried swapping the relay, but it hasn't made any difference - the same error codes persist. I also recall seeing a reference to a fault on Terminal 30.
