Just refurbished with new bushes, brake pipes, splash plates calipers etc. I am undecided whether to fit the whole lot as one or as individual units, what do you think?

It would be hard but not impossible to get the swing arms on. I installed my subframe with the swing arms and diff in place. Then installed the shafts and brakes when it was in the car.

I did mine on my own by taking it apart on the car bit by bit, and then reinstalling it bit by bit.
I fitted poly bushes , it will be coming off again this year to fit standard bushes.

However, I will drop the lot completely this time.
the parts separately are heavy (especially the diff) and not easy to get to the bolts to remove, and afterwards to tighten. (yes especially the diff!) try holding it in the right position to put the bolts in !!!
It looks far easier to drop the lot and then strip it, so I will go that route, learnt from experience.

I changed the Diff. on anE30 3 series at work a few years ago and I cut down a 3/8” drive 18mm socket leaving just enough depth to remove the top bolts, made the job easier.
