I think its the switch from what ive read but I'm assuming its not the brake light switch because my brake lights work. Is there a switch for just the rear lights? And does anybody know where it is? Pictures wpuld be most appreciated.
And if anybody knows another reason why the tail lights wouldnt work please chime in

Taillights are off the normal round shiny switch, I think the fuses are sided, not front/rear. It's dark out, so I won't go for a look. Start with the simple stuff, check the bulbs first, if they're OK check for voltage in the taillights, check the fuses. If all else fails, set fire to the car.;)

Do the registration plate lights still work? Do the dash board lights still work?

Tony.

Dash lights work, fuse works (used a good one with same volts and amps) bulbs work (brake lights are fine), I'll check the license plate light though.
I read somewhere that someone with the same problem replaced the brake light switch and it worked, are those connected to the tail lights switch? Obviously connected to the lights but the thingy to turn it on? God I wish I paid more attention in electrics

Registration light is out =p

Checked fuses 25, 33, and 37, online it said these control the tail lights for various '97 models but they were fine. Is there a relay for the tail lights somewhere?

I would be leaning towards a light switch fault.

Check fuse 33 and its socket connectors, it controls many things, here's a checklist.

Fuse 33
Sidelights
Number plate light(s)
Light switch
Tail lights
Interior lights
Telephone
Radio
On-board computer
Heated door locks
Body control unit

Checked 33, its good and everything attached to it =p

Would one light bulb out cause the whole set of tail lights to go out?

Is there another switch besides next to the steering wheel? Headlights work fine

I'm running out of ideas, I may have to call it and go into the dreaded mechanic

Not too sure about these foreign cars, but does it have front sidelights, ie not the headlights? If it has, and they're working, then it has to be a problem in the taillight circuit. There's only the one light switch , the chrome one on the dash, may have to take that out and check that it's working properly, they're normally good switches, the dimmer may mess up but the actual lightswitch part works.

Found the problem and I feel stupid. It was the bulbs. Thought the lights where connected to the brake lights didnt even check, that and figured since they all went out at once it was something related to whatever governs them all. Lesson learned always do your checks =p Thanks for the help everyone!

My left (Driver side) tail light isn’t working except the blinker. It has condensation and a little water inside it I’ve tried draining. I tested the rest of the bulbs in the blinker slot and they work fine. So the bulbs are good but I’m not sure buying a new tail light assembly would fix this.
