There have been many write ups about rear axle rebuilds so I'll make mine the shortened version,

I've been promising myself since winter 2021 to complete the overhaul of my cherished Zed.

So I decided to start in March 24 after purchasing some serious axle stands from SGS. After stripping the whole rear end into individual components. Spending a few hours here and there and it's now complete and finished.

All necessary components blasted and coated
Differential partially dismantled new seals fitted
Drive shafts dismantled cleaned rebuilt and re greased with new Inner and outer boots
Prop shaft flexible coupling, centre bearing carrier and guide renewed
Gear linkage bushes and shims replaced
New drop links
ARB bushes replaced
New differential mount
Gear box to cross member mounts replaced
Subframe bushes renewed
Trailing arm bushes renewed
New brake cables
New flexi hoses
New rear wheel bearings
Discs and pads
Disc backing plates
Calipers blasted. coloured. new pistons and seals
A mix of new brake pipe clips and bolts etc
Underbody cleaned treated with anti rust preventer and coloured

OOOOP'S I nearly forget, A set of Mazza's replacement tank straps, 'PERFECT FIT' .....

So pleased it's now finished and ready for the summer. I have been on a 30 mile test drive, completed without any drama, with no leaks and thankfully nothing has fallen off...... =))

Worth a mention, the gear change is superb, having changed all of the bushes and being re shimmed the gear change is unreal, what a difference.

Chapeau ..looks amazing!

The North East ZedShed open for business now is it ? 🤣
Ha Ha, not a chance,

although the end result is very pleasing and the improved driving and handling is superb, I think once is more than enough.

Looks stunning you must be very happy with that, did the same on my wife’s 3.0 but not to that standard! Just make sure everything is tight as I must have had a senior moment when assembling the diff / driveshafts as one side came loose causing damage and a long search for a driveshaft (3.0) that’s no longer available.

Doing all that in two months is seriously impressive, hats off to you. Did you separate the hubs and bearings yourself?

Hello,
Thank You.

Fortunately I have been involved in selling parts for many years, I have many local garage proprietors that I know personally so I called on them to remove and replace the bearings with a press.

Thank you for the heads up, I checked checked and double checked, however I was going to do a few miles then get underneath and check my work again, 'Just incase'........

Finally got your finger out then ;), looking good, I need to do the front now.
Do you have any contact still with Davyhoogy?
Hello Adrian,
Yes all done now, full car completed front to back. Only thing left to do is the drivers door pull handle, which I have, just need some time to fit.
I only ever saw Davy a couple of times, he lives about half a mile away, never see him or his Z.
Hope to see you sometime soon Adrian.

I'm planning retirement in a couple of years its certainly something I could do to top up my pension 🤣
It won't. I thought a Classic Triumph garage would be fun, given that I had the garage room and equipment, plus the spare time after early retirement... but by the time you pay business rates, plus Insurance, and comply with all the 'Elf and Safety stuff that any garage needs these days, you have to do so many cars to break even that it's not fun any longer.
