Just come out of the garage after a frustrating afternoon. Starting to get on with rebuilding rear trailing arms for my 1.9. I want to be able to get the rear subframe rebuilt and off to MOT before August. I have replacement trailing arms that have been blasted and coated and the rear bearings have been replaced.
thought i would get on with attaching new dust plates and ancillaries. I had a doh moment. The dust plates do not fit over the rear hubs which to most of us is a known , known and one I am now acutely aware of... so, been on forum checking out possible solutions: don't really want to cut and weld.
so.. does anyone know where I can get the hubs off either in a Zed shed near me or in the north Somerset area that would not cost and arm and a leg.. I've had my Zed for nearly 18 months and only driven it 28 miles.. looking forward to having the breeze on my head this summer... any help much appreciated ...

Removing the hubs would destroy the wheel bearings and would require a new set I’m sorry to say. If your determined to go that route I would do them for you but I live just outside of Banbury. If you already have your diff removed it’s only a few more bolts to remove the rear cross beam and could remove those old bushes as well.

The backplates are a very poor design as far as I am concerned. Royal pain.

Both our cars have one backing plate that has been slit to get over the hub. At this age the little locking pin seat is getting pretty poor in the backing plates and pulled through.

With the correct tooling it's possible to reuse them if they aren't already shot. The cost of a set of Meyle HD bearings is only around £50 a pair so it's not exactly expensive to replace them if you've removed them!

You could buy a puller cheaply and do it yourself.
