Good evening
I have been advised that BMW produced/supplied their own oil additive to address issues with noisy rear diffs.
Has anyone used this stuff and/or any part numbers to obtain some ..
Stay safe

Shouldn't need it, change the oil. Get it hot after a good run and allow it to drain into a clean container over night so you can check it for metallic particles. With new oil it should be quiet.

Always remove the filler plug before removing the drain plug. If it won't undo at least you have some time to come up with a cunning plan.

Some BMW limited slip diffs require a friction modifier being added, as my Z4M requires. It's stops the clutch plates from chattering if they slip, usually at slow speed on hard lock.

Would be useful to know what diff you have and what noise you are getting.

This post relates to a question I posted previously regarding whining noise from diff. there is low transmission noise at all speeds best described as a whine however specifically at 70/75mph the whine is loud and appears to be from the rear of car hence suspected diff. Above and below these speeds it is hardly noticeable.
As to what diff ? sorry I can't tell a LSD from any other. My MX5 diff casing was heavily ribbed and I believe that was LSD this Z3 also has a ribbed casing. Sorry for lack of technical ability, all I know is the noise ain't right..
Cheers all

My diff whines a bit but I can only hear it with the roof up like most of the other driveline noises. I figure that seeing I have poly rear axle bushes and I am actually sitting on the diff it's allowed to transmit so,e noise into the cabin. Can you hear yours with the roof down?

So you probably ok. I can't find a working vin decoder that only uses last 7 digitits. I suggest you try https://www.mdecoder.com/ with your full 17 digits. I believe the option for lsd is s209 under wheels and drive

There are a bunch of sites. Google bmw vin decoder and have your 17 digit number handy.
