Rear diff issues

Tried to replace my rear diff and it all fits but the wheel axles connections are bigger than on the older diff? Can I get different size wheel axle connections or do I have to get another diff? I have a 96 z3 with the 1.9 standard transmission… please help I’m lost lol

If you have your old diff pop the output shafts out and put them into the replacement diff.

I thought of that but then I thought of how hard it would be to get new seals to replace the old ones, that’s been a running theme in this project, do you know if I can just get different wheel axles?

Seals should be OK popping out the shafts shouldn't damage them.

Could well be much harder getting the driveshafts out of the rear hubs than the drive flanges out of the diff.

That's what I was referring to Tony (output shafts)

Seems it might not be hard, still concerned that seals could be damaged in the replacement and already being aware it’s hard to find replacement seals, and idea why the flanges are different?

I may be wrong, but from the pictures in your first post…. It looks like you had a small diff and have replaced it with a std diff.

the way to tell is to look at the fill and drain plugs. On a small diff they are not one above the other as they are on a std diff

The small diff version has slightly longer drive shafts than the std one because the diff is narrower.

I really should have compared the two when I had them out, but I got every bolt and wire installed, just wheel flanges was the only difference, but I not all that keen on this kinda stuff lol
