Hi all.
We were changing the diff fluid in our zeds the other day, my sons was fine but went under my newish 97 2.8 auto and noticed that the diff bush was a bit tired!! Didn't change fluid in it as thinking of changing it.
My question is........can it be changed in situ......is it easier to take the rear cover off diff and do it that way?
All help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers @Sharp3y any pointers? Trying to find out how. I was going to replace with a poly bush.

Doing it in situ is MUCH more difficult than taking the cover off if you are fitting a BMW one.

A poly bush looks very easy to fit in comparison and can be done in situ.

I used an OEM bush and packed it with a washer so the carrier wasn't pre-stressed when the nut was tightened.

Before using a poly bush, look at the arguments for/against it, and then decide.

We put a poly in mine in situ, very easy. You just need to cut the inner ring out before pushing the new bush in.

Thank you.........I am going poly as it is auto and dos not get too much stick as my wife drives it mainly.
I take I just support the diff, undo the nut and bolt holding the bush and then lower the diff enough to get the old one out and put the new one in?

Like sharpey says easy enough to do in situe. If your planning to change the oil take the case off it will be even easier then.

Stick a jack under the diff to take the weight and remove the bolt, lower it slowly should give you enough room to get access to it.

I do it this way. First get a trolley jack and block of wood under the Diff. and raise the car. Place stands or blocks under the jacking points and lower the car onto them. Keep a little weight on the jack and remove the bolt through the Diff. bush. Now lower the jack and it will come down below the mounting bracket giving better access to cutting the old bush shell. You only need one cut then the thin shell will tap out easily. Poly bush very simple to fit.

Tony.
