Had an unusually click/knock in the rear brakes it only appeared on harsh braking and as said only on the drivers side.
Stripped and replaced the discs and pads went with Brembo in the end as only £10-15 difference from the budget version.
The brake discs have always been ready as can be seen here.

Rusty on both faces .The Brembo's came finished on all none contact surfaces which was nice means i don't have to paint and no surfaces to rust !

Back plates where all perfect nice as a lot seem to rust no signs of leaks and no noise at all on braking so job well done

What did you pay for the discs and pads Ant if you don't mind me asking? I've asked Santa for pennies, I need new suspension but I've spoken to the manager at Zed Shed Lincoln LTD and if there's enough in the pot I'll be getting those as well.

Good Job, keep an eye on the wear pattern on your new discs for the next few miles, the old discs show you were not getting the full use of the pads at the outer edge.

The pads where un even worn but the discs where rusty to the edges when i got the car.
Will keep an eye on them but replaced the pads too there was lots of meat on them but as i was doing the disks the pads where a no brainer:thumbsup:

Good job well done Ant. I fitted coated discs on my Z3 almost 3 years ago and they still look as good as the day they were fitted.
Pagid and Mintex also supply coated discs now too. If the fund is large enough @Grumpy I can price brake bits for you and should be able to save you some cash mate.;)

Tony.

It'll be standard stuff mate. Can't afford these coilover things. Standard springs and shocks is fine. Mine don't work at all so it'll still be a huge improvement mate.

The Pagid disk worked out only about 2 quid a disc cheaper so went for the brembo.
With your discount Tony im sure you'll swallow that depending on @Grumpy 's budget:thumbsup:

The pagid was what i was going in to buy not sure what the cheaper one was it was only about 22 quid a disc but as the brembo's where not over the top price wise i thought why not !!.
A great job for you and your lad to do nothing more satisfying than shiney bits !

Yeah, done disc/pads/calipers before though not on my Zed. My lad has just been doing the very same thing on his Motor Mechanics College course, which is nice and handy

Fronts are straight forward, the only possible problem on the rear is that you may have to back off the handbrake shoes adjuster if there's a large wear lip on the inside drum to allow the disc/drum to slide off over the handbrake shoes.

I was fortunate that with a few taps of a persuader the discs came free there was no wear lip internally and the shoes looked ok never really had any hand brake issue adjusted them up to a slight bind they backed them off allgood.
A nice easy task on a zed to be honest a good bit of diy spannering with a basic tool kit can accomplish it.

We've been fitting the Brembo's in the Zed Shed for the last few Zeds as the price difference is so small, and that they have the nice coating on them. Will be switching all mine at some stage for them too, one less thing to worry about keeping clean then ;)
