As above, I'm looking for rear calipers for my 1.9 2002 z

Just replaced the front and the rear could be doing with being changed over.

All the local autoparts seem to have a huge price increase for rear calipers so thought I'd ask on here

Thanks

Are you looking for new or used?

As @BMBabe says there are plenty of used on Ebay. My understanding from realoem is that it's the same rear caliper on all Z3 models. However the rears are not shared with the E36 3 Series contrary to some listings.

Used are available for around £40 including postage which I think is fair. I could liberate the pair on my breaker, depending on how quickly you want them but I would want the same money.

A quick scan of new (which I suspect is what you are after) does suggest the rears are considerably more expensive than the front (and less choice of seller/supplier). I suspect this is because the front's are shared with the 3 Series and the rears aren't.

You may also want to consider refurbishment. I had a quote of £122 from http://www.brakecaliperspecialists.uk/ recently for my fronts. Maybe the rears are the same sort of price. I don't think this sort of money is too shabby, especially to keep an OEM part on the car v a new non-OEM part.

Are you sure they need replacement? I'm only asking as 'could be doing with being changed over' doesn't sound completely certain!

BIggRed are also a company that refurbishes brake calipers, only issue is you need to get yours off to do that. I have a set of rear calipers that could be sent and refurbished and then you send me your old ones when they are changed over.

Here is a word of warning about fitting re-furbed calipers.I fitted new calipers to the rear wheels with no problem. I fitted re-furbed to the front wheels and when I came to bleed them I found I couldn't get a seal on the bleed screw. I tried standard steel bleed screws, stainless steel and also brass but no matter how much I tightened them up they would not seal. Doing some research it appears that the shot blasting process can wear away some of the metal on the internal thread creating a loose fit. I ended up fitting a small bolt and crush washer. The moral is to check the fit before you fit the calliper onto the car .

That's pretty slack of the refurbers isn't it? I'd expect them to put bolts in any threads. I'm picking up my compressor this weekend and have already bought a shot-blaster attachment. The first thing I'm doing is the front stub axles. I'd already thought to put a bolt with washers over the machined seating surfaces so they didn't get touched.

Great point you've raised though and something worth asking if you buy refurb.

Whenever I clean callipers for painting I always plug the holes with the soft plastic plugs which come in new wheel cylinders and the like at work. Most people throw them away, not me!

Tony.

Hi Mrscalex. Did you sort out your calipers? I find I have a pair of new rear ATE calipers that are up for sale. They were bought for my 2.8 so not sure if they would fit your 1.9 as the BMW numbers on Real OEM do not correspond.

Thank you but personally I didn't need the calipers in the end and they were for the front. In fact the original poster looking for the rears was @Derek

What sort of price would you be looking at please?

Hi Steve. From memory I think I paid just over £200 for the pair.I bought them from MisterAuto when they were offering a discount.A bit of a mix up with ordering resulted in me ending up with two pair, the other pair I fitted to my 2.8.Should have sent them back but never got round to it! Would £135 the pair plus postage seem reasonable?
