Replaced the original 21 year old boot struts today with a pair ordered from SGS. Soft open and close can now resume.

Would be interested in how you get on with them as SGS seem to come in for some stick online. I've got SGS trolley jack, jack stands and tool cabinet(s) and found it all to be solid kit that's very keenly priced.

Their customer service is also very good which is often the measure of a company. On the tool cabinet(s), I ordered one that was damaged in transit so they sent me a replacement within days and let me keep the original one as well. Result!

I installed a pair on mine a little while ago and they fit and work fine. My old ones wouldn't open the lid fully. Now it takes a little to remember I have to push it closed instead of let it drop.

Watch out as sometimes new ones can be a little lively at first. I guess that's part gas settling and part getting used to something new.

Surprised you didn't go for the stainless or chrome end sockets rather than the plastic, SGS supply them, got mine there
