Rear Beam bushes

How does the rear beam supporting bushes work , should the gap be at the bottom or at the top ? how do you test the bushing to make sure its ok

Have a look at the last photo in post 6 should look like that there’s plenty of photos in the zed shed builds of examples of after as well

Courtesy of the 'shed, a quick vid of a failed beam bush showing how we normally test them. Visibly if there is no gap underneath the bush and it's sat on the plate underneath it's fully failed. If you can use a bar on top and apply moderate pressure like the video then it's going or gone.

Hi is a worn bush an mot fail ? is there not a knocking sound from the back end when the bushes are worn

The beam will knock on the base plate when going over potholes etc. Unlikely it would fail an MOT unless the Tester knows his onions.

I had mine replaced the other week as they were sitting on the plate for some time.
Must admit this has resulted in the biggest positive change I have experienced in the car, even after changing out all shocks, springs, control arms, track rod ends, arb bushes etc. over the last few years.
The car now feels much more refined , planted and secure and strangely even the gear change feels better.

At the very least it will have straightened the drive line of the prop. shaft by raising the Diff. by around 10 - 13mm.
