Unfortunately not. At best with the right kit you can lower the whole rear end and remove them in situ but you still need to lower it to clear the pins.

I understood the "pins" were studs and as such it's possible to remove them and then don't need to lower it as much? Not an easy job even so.

Tony.

Looks shot to me too! You could drop it a bit and remove the main pins/studs. But you still need to push out the bushes, which I should imagine to be a bloody hard job while under the car without special equipment. We use an 11 ton floor standing press after using a blow torch to push them out - just can't see how you could apply that much force when the sub frame is in situ. There just isn't much room under there!

Yeah can do it that way but the pin itself is locktited in. Once you did get to the stage you would need to remove the old bushes which we do with a 11ton press. I know brian has a tool for doing it in situ but you will need to drop the beam to get the clearance to clamp round the beam.

I did mine in situ, but as @Lee said, I have the correct tool for the job, the beam does have to be lowered enough to clear the pins, these are removed to allow the tool access abouve the beam. Took 4 1/2hrs to do but it was not that easy.

thanks for the replies, i thought that would be the case. i don't think this is going to be a job that i am going to tackle at home somehow as it also needs the hub doing on the same side.

Sounds like an ideal time to get the rear beam off and totally rebuild it.

Managed to change mine using a hacksaw to cut two slots through the steel sleeve in the bush, long thin chisel to collapse it a bit and then just tapped the bush out. Much like taking the diff bush out, just takes a bit more sawing. Had to drop the whole lot out first, one of the studs came out with the nut but the other one stayed put.Don't know if they're all the same but my cross-beam had a couple of dimples pressed into it where the bush is, I put the hacksaw slots either side of them.

Don't be temped to try and heat the bushings with the beam in the car. Your plastic fuel tank is just too close for comfort.

This is why I like to drop the beam out. I can have it done and back together in an afternoon. I warm the bushes with a blow torch and press them out.
