No I’m not taking any credit for this. But I’m very proud of the craftsmanship that has gone into them. They are built in Estonia on an island called saaremaa the traditional way there’s a mile of trees in each one and the. Joint between each log is cut with a hand saw!crazy.all I had to do was the foundation and lift the logs.I still speak to my friends on the island it’s now known as the corona island as over 50% of the population are infected:(. I had some great times with them they taught me how to drink what you could call vodka and eat sausage and paprika :hungover:.Of course we took the Welsh flag over while They were in construction

I'd love to have a go in the new telehandler the next time we come over Hugh

Did the manurfacturer do the erection on your base slab and you doing the lifting , or do they just supply

Would't it be nice if after all the troubles we have had by being dependant on other countrys we can go back to manurfacturing in the UK again.

I must book one of your cabins when all this is over, they look stunning

They initially built the house in Estonia dismantled it and transported them over on trucks it’s a traditional build the same way for hundreds of years we don’t have the skills built up over generations or the heritage and the timber is grown in a much colder winter which makes it harder and denser.Theres a certain way to erect this type of house and of course it helps if you’ve done it before so I just made the tea ;)

How did the cost compare to a traditional build? How do running costs compare?

Tony.

Very little difference we put solar panels and ground source heating low maintenance but not cheap to run as a holiday let but as a home they would compare.technology has moved on quickly in the last 10 years I’d do it different now,but we’re pleased with the houses and they are quite unique

@miller1098 I ask because a few years age ( over 35 ) an assiociate bought a house between Newcastle and Carlise that was one of 3 built by a Norway (or Swedish ?) firm as demo units and he always commented how fast they had erected it. The fuel costs were very very low due to the insulation and design ---like 2 tracks of double glazed windows.--- this was situated on an exposed hill side.

That’s a coincidence, I was just reading about Saaremaa island off the coast of Estonia which has been labelled by locals as "corona island" after becoming the hotspot for the virus and being placed into strict quarantine.

The first Covid-19 cases on the island emerged a month ago after a sports event was held there with a team from Italy - volleyball team from Milan.

Now health officials estimate that half of the island's 33,000 population have contracted the virus!

We looked at that design but opted for the traditional log build as we love the way you actually see how each different shaped log is cut to fit it’s unique place in the build. It does have very good insulative property’s because wood is such a poor conductor of heat. The actual house goes up pretty quickly but of course it’s been erected once in the factory but then each log on the inside is sanded and floors ceilings so time scale would probably be comparable with conventional build
