Ratty, my Z3 1.9, enjoyed the run round Skye on Saturday so much that we went out for another run today, as the weather was nice again. We set off from Cromarty just before noon, round the Firth and up over to Bonar Bridge and Lairg. The weather was getting better and better, so we continued on up along Loch Shin on the A838.
We stopped for the occasional brew up to help keep alert.
We could soon see more mountains in the distance. And, not having driven to the far north western corner of Scotland before, we decided to carry on and were soon among the mountains,
We then at arrived at Laxford Bridge, continuing on the A838.
The route then took us north towards Cape Wrath and Durness.
To visit Cape Wrath requires a passenger ferry crossing and a minibus ride as there's no public road, so we left that for another time. We soon arrived at Durness and parked above Sango Sands on the north coast, and had a picnic by the beach.
After exploring the area a bit, we reluctantly started out for home, deciding to retrace our tyre tracks to get the opposite views.
The sun by now was sinking as we motored in the shadows of the mountains, then back along the seventeen mile long Loch Shin, to pause at Lairg for an excellent fish supper. With tea, of course. By eight o'clock we were home, having covered just on 200 miles at a most leisurely pace, and meeting little traffic. A lovely afternoon and evening out, with Ratty once again behaving impeccably.
Cheers
