After putting the Sun SS lower grill on the coupe I thought maybe the new kidney grills purchased some time ago that I didn’t like would maybe go better with the SS if I sprayed the inners black. OEM from the factory was chrome outer grey silver inner.

Trued the black carbon wrap first but didn’t think it would stand out enough so having rattle can full of non gloss black Halfords spray paint
thought what can I loose, nice that they split apart easily..355E558F-55DF-4BEF-A41A-E9705526B26F.jpeg

after three coats of grey plastic primer and four coats of black I was happy to at least try them on the coupe with the SS lower grill.

Now all that’s left to do is the nasty chip off the rear spoiler from my garage door. My fault as I didn’t get the car in far enough after sorting years of junk out and thinking there’s enough room for the coupe but looks like I was about 3cm short. The door closed no problem but next day wouldn’t open more than a few inches. Had to force it up chipping the rear spoiler.

I found the chipped piece and managed to glue it back but a tiny amount of filler was needed underneat.

have filled the underneath and will try and level it all good enough to patch spray it.
Will post pics when it’s done if it turns out ok, if not I’ll take it to a body shop and claim I did it myself. Lol

I can feel your pain with that garage mishap Roy. A while ago I had the nearside wing on my Z4 resprayed because of a scratch it had when I bought it. A week later I scatched it in the same place moving the car in the garage.I said, 'Oh dear' as well. =))

Thank you Shelly but I did blame the wife when I got home, after all it was her that made me tidy my garage in the first place. =)) =)) =))
I’ll forgive her if she washes and polishes the coupe another four times this year, and let’s me off hanging the washing out for the rest of my days.=))=))=)). Then I might even fix the Hoover for her.

It’s a sign you need to ditch the little duck tail and get a proper spoiler that’s a worthy successor to the Z3 one :p
You would not have made that mistake with a proper spoiler!

I’d be inclined to try making the mesh on the Zunsport darker and just leave the outline frame bright to match the kidneys above. Nice mix of chrome and dark for contrast and depth.

Amazing how much difference a small bit of trim makes!

Think you could be right Dino, but the lower grill just won't stand out. Looking to get away from this now old school everything black look. These cars can look very attractive blinged up just a fraction IMO. Maybe add some nice black spots in there somewhere just to flatten the OTT S/S mesh. Will try your idea by cutting some sheet black carbon fibre wrapp to fit, just to see. Thanks for your input.

Roy.

It’s fun playing with the grilles, I’ve had a few myself :p
When you bored with chrome you can then try painting the surround in body colour.

Do they just clip in and out like the Z3?

Tony.
Can’t believe you let a cockney southerner loose in that lovely car of yours, and he didn’t spare the horses either. Lesson to be learnt there Tony. Who ever he is I wouldn’t let him anywhere near my motor. :slaphead:

Think the bait was taken even before Lee parted with the beast. Still think the Z3s and Z4s are the best looking roadsters out there.
(Awwwww, that was painfull but nevertheless true)
