Rattle, around rear drivers wheel

Hi all, i know this is really vague but I just cannot pin down a rattling in my car. Been underneath with a rubber mallet, fixed any loose heat shields, and the exhaust is not hitting anything, the wheel carrier is solid, rear brakes are new. It sounds like some loose nuts in a tin and coming from my right rear wheel. But I just cannot find it.
Any ideas?? Thanks 👍

Is it the dust/splash guard behind the disks? They do tend to rust a bit and can come loose

Hi don't think so, I've poked them a fair bit, worth another look though as its that sort of sound. Thanks

Try easing up on the handbrake (with your thumb on the button) when the rattling occurs. Sometimes the cable rattles where it goes into the rear of the hub.

Usually you just need to take some slack out of the cable by tightening the cable adjusters at the rear of the H/B lever. Just be careful not to overdo the adjusting or you could end up with the parking brake shoes binding. This may help.

I have had the very same problem when I replaced the handbrake cables they were rattling in the hubs I used a large cable shrink wrap on the metal part that fits into the hub that sorted it for me.

When I fitted new cables on my Z3 I applied a small amount of silicon before sliding the sleeve into the hub.

I have also had the pin come out that holds the hand brake shoe in place. Would rattle and make a small grinding noise once in a while but didn't do anything major. Had to replace the back plates as the pin had worn through.

Have had similar problem - managed to fit a pin with larger head to compensate for corrosion on plate.

Ok so took the brake apart and the rattle was a loose pin worked through a rusty dust shield. Followed Tony's advice on another post and replaced with nylock nuts and bolts with washers. Looks ok. I think ??

A cost effective repair as long as the rest of the back plate is solid.

Forgot to mention the right hand brake was hardly coming on so the adjustment under the gator sorted it. It was missing a locking nut, now sorted. Thanks again
