A rusty old Porsche which doesn't work has been described as one of the most exciting discoveries in recent years - and it is set to sell for £500,000.

The Porsche 356A 1500 GS Carrera Coupe helped bridge the gap between the company's sports vehicles and racing cars when it debuted in 1955.

But this 1957 model hasn't been driven for 45 years after its brakes failed a safety inspection in Georgia in the early 1970s.

Do we know how much these sell for when concours condition?

Sorry, just read the article that says 750K. Buy for 500K, spend £100K restoring, decent profit. Bargain!!:)

Amazing what cars are sitting around in barns.
One of my most memorable jobs was going to collect a series one Landrover, winched it out of a barn, nests and all sorts with it. Took an hour to clear it off before pulling it on the truck.
It was the chaps fathers car who had recently passed, the son didn't know it was there.
Sad experience, but also quite a moving experience when it sees daylight for the first time in years.

Last one I saw was in Austria in the early 1980s, complete with skis. Looked real cool.:)

Love the Ferrari badges, NOT! Don't even think Fiat owned Ferrari then?

Ferrari sold 50% of his company to FIAT, with the caveat that he would remain 100% in control of the racing activities and that FIAT would pay sizable subsidy till his death for use of his Maranello and Modena production plants. Ferrari had previously offered Ford the opportunity to buy the firm in 1963 for US$18 million but, late in negotiations, Ferrari withdrew once he realized that he would not retain independent control of the company racing program. Ferrari became a joint-stock company, and FIAT took a small share in 1965. In 1969 FIAT increased their holding to 50% of the company. (In 1988 FIAT's holding rose to 90%).

And if you lovely members know why it was called the GT40, I am going to tell you any how .... ;)
The car was named the GT (for Grand Touring) with the 40 representing its overall height of 40 inches (1.02 m, measured at the windscreen)

Not many people know that (as Mr Caine said)
