Raising the roof

Not unexpectedly the electric top mechanism became intermittent. I switched to manual which is actually okay.

However I notice compared with a friend’s Z3 (manual roof only) mine takes a lot of strength to raise. I have to get out whereas he just leans back to raise.
Any thoughts?

I am going to ask a fellow Z roadster owner to help replace the switch. If I am having to use a lot of effort to raise the roof is the motor being strained and what should I do?
Thanks

There's a tap you can turn to take the hydraulics out of the fight. Did mine so long ago I've forgotten exactly where on the system it is.

Why don't you check the switch for Voltage Drop by (measuring the voltage on both sides) with the switch engaged on and off. The voltage at the pump or output of the switch should be the same or close. If you have much lower voltage then the switch may be going bad.
Another issue could be leakage at the tap valve on the pump or a leaking hydraulic system. My car started leaking at the hydraulic cylinders top seal but it would not surprise me if the internal seals are also bad.
Hope that helps!

Mine was intermittent before it failed completely, turned out to be the brake switch that was on the way out..
