Looking to replace radio with a new unit which contains bluetooth for my phone. Is the Turner Motorsport "Continental" a good choice? Are there any others that look close to the orginal radio?

I find the closest (by a large margin) are the:

Blaupunkt Barcelona 200 DAB BT or Blaupunkt Essen 200 DAB BT

Non-DAB:

Blaupunkt Madrid 200 BT Bluetooth

They are all around ~£100, but i think you are in the US, so they should be a bit cheaper over there...

Very happy with my Blaupunkt Nurnberg, looks of the period but has all the modern stuff too, DAB, BT, USB...

I like the Blaupunkt, can't find a US source. Crutchfield no longer carries them. The nice Bluetooth adapter is also not shipped to US. Maybe the Continental is best I can do,

trying to select which Blaupunkt unit to purchase. I have the Harman-Kardon premium sound system with high performance multi-channel amplifier and subwoofer. Anyone have specific recommendations or experience with a specific model to mate with my existing system? I want to order the correct unit.

I also have the Harmon-Kardon system. The Blaupunkt model I bought works fine, see post#6, I'm pretty sure any of the Blaupunkt models would work ok.

I've got a CD43 (MG, not BMW) with the Bluetooth adapter @Zephyr mentioned (post #8 above), and the sound is miles better than any other modern head units (I tested a Sony and a Pioneer). There must be something designed in there to make the most of the standard radios/CDs.

I would expect new Blaupunkt units will be good, but i have no experience with those.

In my thread I explained why the stock unit plays better. After market ones can do fine, as long as they have the same or conpatible Ohm and Watt characteristics.
Passing a pre-amped signal of 8ohms to a 4ohm system is like an elephant trying to screw a goat.

Hi thanks for this..Did you keep the standard speaker set up? Did you have to fit a different aerial to get it to work?
Hi, yes I did keep my speaker setup. BUT, I have the Harmon Kardon HiFi option, so not a standard setup. It's far better than standard even before the new head unit.
I did buy a DAB aerial but tbh the signal is not great here so it is not very good on DAB but the existing aerial works fine for FM.

I guess I will have to look at the options on upgrading my speakers.. I don't have the Harmon Kardon in mine so maybe upgrading the stereo without new speakers would be a, waste of time?

I don't know what experience you are expecting, but I normally think car stereos are pants. When I want to listen to music properly, I have my old stereo set-up at home (and I play the bass, poorly!). Basically, in an sports car, I wouldn't expect super sound...

In my case, I've opted to keep the whole system standard (CD43 and factory speakers), but I've added the bluetooth adapter mentioned up thread. It works for me,

I've not had to upgrade my speakers but there are lots of threads on the forum about people doing it. I agree with you, a new head unit may not be much better than your current setup with the same speakers. As Mus, says, depends what you're expecting, if you want a trip up to Stafford you're welcome to have a listen/look at how mine sounds.

Many years ago on my old 2.0 i installed a Alpine Cd radio and upgraded speakers to Rainbow. They were quite expensive at the time and left em on the car when i sold it.
It only sounded good once I installed new wiring direct to speakers. I left all original wiring in place so the original speakers could be put back.

I also have the CD43 + bluetooth module listed. Totally and completely outperfromed the aftermarket Sony unit that was fitted in the car when I bought it.
Not only that but lights up the correct colour and looks factory - and is highly unlikely to be stolen.
