I like the Blaupunkt, can't find a US source. Crutchfield no longer carries them. The nice Bluetooth adapter is also not shipped to US. Maybe the Continental is best I can do,
I also have the Harmon-Kardon system. The Blaupunkt model I bought works fine, see post#6, I'm pretty sure any of the Blaupunkt models would work ok....I have the Harman-Kardon premium sound system... Anyone have specific recommendations or experience with a specific model to mate with my existing system?...
In my thread I explained why the stock unit plays better. After market ones can do fine, as long as they have the same or conpatible Ohm and Watt characteristics.I've got a CD43 (MG, not BMW) with the Bluetooth adapter @Zephyr mentioned (post #8 above), and the sound is miles better than any other modern head units (I tested a Sony and a Pioneer). There must be something designed in there to make the most of the standard radios/CDs.
I would expect new Blaupunkt units will be good, but i have no experience with those.
Hi thanks for this..Did you keep the standard speaker set up? Did you have to fit a different aerial to get it to work?Very happy with my Blaupunkt Nurnberg, looks of the period but has all the modern stuff too, DAB, BT, USB... View attachment 255061
Around the £100 mark.
Hi, yes I did keep my speaker setup. BUT, I have the Harmon Kardon HiFi option, so not a standard setup. It's far better than standard even before the new head unit.Hi thanks for this..Did you keep the standard speaker set up? Did you have to fit a different aerial to get it to work?
I guess I will have to look at the options on upgrading my speakers.. I don't have the Harmon Kardon in mine so maybe upgrading the stereo without new speakers would be a, waste of time?Hi, yes I did keep my speaker setup. I did buy a DAB aerial but tbh the signal is not great here so it is not very good on DAB but the existing aerial works fine for FM.
HTH
I've not had to upgrade my speakers but there are lots of threads on the forum about people doing it. I agree with you, a new head unit may not be much better than your current setup with the same speakers. As Mus, says, depends what you're expecting, if you want a trip up to Stafford you're welcome to have a listen/look at how mine sounds.I guess I will have to look at the options on upgrading my speakers..
