I swapped out my centre console for this today but after installation I've noticed poor radio reception.

When I try and switch between stations it no longer finds the stations itself, instead it keeps scrolling through the list.

The signal is quite stable when parked but non existent whilst driving.

The only thing I recall doing is pulling this cable off, at first I thought it was for the parking brake sensor but it made no difference, no lights on the dash.

I did secure the cable down again but radio reception has been poor since.

Can someone confirm if that is indeed the ground and if so would it affect signal?

Cheers.

So sorted it by doing this:

Has the Ariel connection come away on the back of the head unit ?
I think the wire at the handbrake will be the handbrake light , it's not stereo related you have not popped any fuses have you ?

@Antm72 No mate, tried fiddling with the aerial connection but no luck there.

Had this trouble, albeit a little bit different with my other zed. It resolved itself and was never able to find the cause.

Here's a video of what used to happen, excuse the poor quality and watch it from about 19 seconds in

Similar sort of thing happens now, if I rotate the aerial connection at the back of the head unit, I find that the signal fades in and out.

I don't see how the cable would rotate whilst driving though and why at stand still the signal is almost perfect.

It could be a complete coincidence and none of this could be related to removing the centre console but I think that there is a good chance it is.

@Dino D Did you switch to DAB?

Was it ok prior to removal ? Looks like maybe a short but not sure where you would find it :(

It worked absolutely flawlessly before removal.

Wouldn't a short cause a fuse to blow? (should I suppose) it's like the minute I start driving I lose reception and when I come to a stop again the radio fades back in...

Not sure that a short on coax would cause any fuses etc to blow the only bit with voltage would be the bit in the boot (antenna base)
It may be an electrical interference like the old whistle you used to get from an alternator.
It's an odd one mate for sure o_O

@Low Rider that seems like a cheap fix, but I haven't yet ordered one and would be very lucky if that was the issue. Mine seems a problem with the coax itself but can't figure out what.

For anyone interested here is where it stands right now.
