Hi.some b******* snapped of my radio aerial but snapped it off at the base unit, now the remote central locking still worked, but you can't live without the radio,so I took the aerial base unit out without disconnecting the battery(frightened of losing the radio code)there are a couple of connections to the securing bolt and I think there could have been a small short circuit flash as I disconnected them , anyway I repaired the unit,re-soldered the wire inside that makes contact with the aerial and put it all back together, good job I thought, but now the central locking does not work on the remote but still works ok on the key.I've checked every fuse and they are all good , so my question is was there a short and I've caused some damage or have I botched up the repair to the aerial and is the aerial connected to the remote alarm/central locking system, thanks for showing an interest any help please.

That will probably have something to do with not disconnecting the battery but having said that, I had the same problem when my battery went flat....

I had the same problem with my aerial and had to remove the base unit. If I remember correctly the larger of the wires is the earth for the head unit / CD changer (if fitted), the two smaller ones being power and earth for the aerial. I also had sparks when disconnecting, but all was OK after refitting. It could just be a coincidence and your remote battery has died at the same time.

hi,thank you for the encouraging reply , it gives me hope, will fit new remote battery though the little red light still shows on the "brick" , thank you
Worth a try. Not sure if you have to reprogramme the remote when changing the battery. I know when I have changed my Freelander one you have to press one of the buttons 6 times in succession for it to align itself with the car. I should think there is a section in the owners handbook about this.

Put a new battery in my "brick" some months ago and worked fine first time. The alarm did throw a track when the car battery went flat though. After a few minutes of opening and closing on the fob it sorted itself.
