Hey all,

I was doing various odds and ends over the weekend and needing some advice identifying one item and some advice on whether the others need attention urgently.

P.s. I know there's a lot of rust, I'm slowly working my way through it.....

Q1 - What is this?
a) I found it on the shelf behind the seats..
b) Behind the driverside front headlight there are two cables with connectors just loose - is something meant to attach? It didn't appear that the passenger side had the same loom

Q2 - Will these be ok?
a) The insulation piping is looking to perish in a random place. Should I change asap or ok for a bit?

b) I know it's crusty, it will be sorted at some point in the medium term but is there meant to be such a gap or is this meant to be filled with rubber/bushes

c) What colour is this meant to be? It looks like it was black but has faded to a silver / grey....

d) is this cross brace worth sand blasting / powder coating or shall I just replace?

B. Beam bushes are knackered, the gap should be at the bottom.
D. Get a good replacment from one of the breakers and powder coat or paint.

Q2. Looking at that insulation I would be checking for Mice and any other chewed items.

I was hoping this wasn't mice.... But the wear was a very unusual location. I couldn't see anywhere else like it for now.
Is this something needing urgent replacement or will it be fine for a bit?

I suspected this...... What should this be doing to the driving feel?

It can make the rear end feel a bit loose. The most obvious thing you'll notice is a sharp metallic knock as you go over humps, pot hoes etc. as the rear beam hits the lower support plate.

depending on how bad they are gone (and they look well past it) it will feel loose on the rear, mine felt like it was trying to steer on the back wheels under hard acceleration.

I wouldn't rule it out, but maybe it's hard to tell from the pic but it's not uniform and fades to black under the more sheltered areas like behind the reg plate so I'd put my money on wear/sun damage.

Think I'll rattle can it myself anyway, will be one of those latter jobs as looks a bit fiddly to get out without removing the whole bumper, ( which is due a spray as well anyway )

No issues with the insulation really, this is only there to stop it freezing in the winter quite a common problem in the states not so much here. The pipe inside is solid plastic, part of the CCV system.

If you drop the under tray off and attack from underneath it's not too bad tbh if you can get the car up on stands or ramps
