I once had a gearbox shaft snap and the front of the propshaft flap about at 60mph and grab and wrap around the handbrake cable pulling it tight luckily It didn't cause to much damage (exept 2 large tyre marks down the road) simply because it caught the hadbrake cable as it was a fibreglass kitcar with escort Mk1 running gear it could have been terrible :p

Wow never seen anything like that before. I guess its corroded and that's the rust that's been rolling around inside.

I saw the damage from when a Bedford propshaft broke. The cargo bed was shredded.

I've also heard of Land Rovers being flipped over, but that was anecdotal.

44444mls Ianmc and was hardly ever out with previous owner, maybe that's it's downfall damp garage and not being driven and dried with the wind underneath. Having said that most of the metal parts underneath are still black paint. Who knows

That's what I was wondering, might have been left for some time and rotted away? I'm personally a big believer in using cars regularly - they then wear out parts rather than rot out parts! Think wear is often cheaper to fix than rot, and you have the fun of driving them! Thanks for sharing, a first one for me also!:)

Glad to hear that you have got this sorted as prop breaking would not have been nice .
Had a cortina years ago that sheared the front rubber prop coupling overtaking a Rolls Royce on the A82 wasn't good did a fair bit of underside damage.
Had to leave it in a parking space on apposite side as it was right there when prop broke . Then up next day prop off side off road then towed it back to Glasgow overall absolute pain whichever way you look at it.
