Hi all,

I am replacing the power steering rack on my z3 and am wondering...
Should I replace the reservoir as well?

I know they have a non serviceable filter inside but I am not sure if it actually needs replacing as a service item

Or should I just backflush it?

Thank you

I replaced mine with a febi one- wasn't very expensive at all.
It also helped as I was replacing the feed and return lines from the reservoir, at the same time, so I could measure the ID of the needed line and order it before taking anything apart.

If you want to replace those lines I suggest you just buy regular oil hose and cut it to length with a Stanley knife. I used this hose - https://www.autosiliconehoses.com/products/rubber-multi-purpose-hose?variant=55877434311033.

IIRC one of hoses had ID of 13mm and the other 17mm. But that was for the reservoir on my '97 M44.

Replacement it with original bmw reservoir. This is a time you should also buy bmw banjo seals for the oil housing. Check for the leaks its prone to have for the oil housing seals. Use only bmw seals and it will pay off. Also, absolutely use the original bmw power steering lines. These will leak if you remove them, even if they are not leaking now. Always use bmw parts. I know its expensive. But in the end you have all originality, not part Germanish, lol.
