I'd like to replace this as its leaking , a couple of videos I've watched they have just emptied the bowl and replaced with new bowl and fluid , is there any bleeding required ?

No bleeding as such but once the new reservoir is fitted and refilled with ATF you will need to run the car and mover the steering lock to lock to circulate the fluid and burp the system, dont overfill it or you will have it splashing out. Check the hoses they are clamped to the reservoir using thos crimp type hose clips, replace those with good quality jubilee clips, maybe stainless ones. Also check the hose ends they thend to rot out and are a source of leaks. Had to replace one of mine which had rotted. It was the one that is shaped to fit around the bottom of the rack, a straight length of hose would not have worked so got my replacement from BMW.

One litre enough ?
Was on mine - took 900ml on both occasions I have changed it - forgot to say earlier do not hold it on full lock - strains the system you will hear it groaning if you do.

Edit - just noticed you have the 2 litre may be worth checking capacities in handbook.

System capacity will be the same more than likely. As said just cycle the steering from lock to lock. Check level again after a few miles.

Tony.

I replaced my reservoir yesterday. In theory, a simple job but because of the limited access and the short available length of hose it took me quite a long time combined with a degree of bad language....I also have the cooling loop and would have liked to just replace all the hoses but some of them are quite expensive items.
