Some of you may have seen my post about my mystery fluid leak on the passenger side steering rack boot.

Well I took the wheel off today for a closer look and I think I may have found the culprit (two hoses coming from/ to power steering reservoir) but I wanted to let you knowledgeable people see some photos to see if you agree and for some guidance as to what to do next.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Ps doesn't seem to be any tears in the boots...

That pipe will be the return pipe back to the reservoir or the feed pipe from the reservoir to the pump.( I can't quite make it out from the pictures), hence the Jubilee clip. I would remove the clip and check the hose for any splits at he end or in the sides and it it's ok clean it all and put it back together and fully tighten the clip, or replace the clip if need be. If the hose is damaged replace it.
The pressure side of the power steering is fed through the thin steel pipes. Do not run the engine with any of the pipes disconnected or you will empty the system all over the floor pretty quickly.

Thanks a lot Tony. From what I can tell both pipes are soaked. Is it a common issue?

To be honest I am relieved it doesn't seem to be coming from the rack and is instead a leak from above!

Well it must be a gravity fed leak, ie. not under pressure so can only be from the feed to pump or return to reservoir.. Most older cars have these sort of issues which are a small build up over the years. Nothing to worry over.;)
