Hi chaps

I've been looking for Coupe and have been to see one today which I'm tempted to make a bid for, but I have a few questions and thought I'd look for some collective input first before making an offer (or walking away!).

Considering it's 20+ years old I thought it looked in remarkably good condition, but I suspect it's had a bit of paintwork over the years (to be expected) and I could only find one rust blemish on the bodywork - a scab on the bootlid:

There was some corrosion evident on the edges of the sill covers also:

The engine started from cold (I turned up unannounced) first time and sounded silky smooth. A couple of very minor occasional hunts when idling but I'm pretty sure I have heard most BMW 6's make similar noises - certainly nothing to suggest vanos. It drove very well, no hesitations, no knocking - gears fine.

One thing I did notice was under acceleration the back window would mist up briefly from the exhaust gasses - is that normal for this time of year or is it a sign of something untoward making it's way out of the combustion chamber?

I got it up on the ramp and the underside was mostly very good to look at - no signs of excessive corrosion - looked very good for it's age.

One question is that the O/S sill looked a bit less tidy than the N/S one (which was virtually corrosion free) - maybe has been welded at some point, couldn't quite make my mind up:

The rear diff looked very crusty though the boot floor above it was fine:

There was a slight weep to the drivers side of the engine bay - possibly from the gearbox - there were mentions of a gearbox weep on some of the service receipts:

Rest of the underside is fine - no obvious signs of fluid leaks or exhaust issues - one undertray at the front a bit loose and hanging down slightly on OS but I'm sure that could be easily rectified.

Cosmetically two small issues - missing washer nozzle:

& something odd going on with the drivers door card:

Everything seemed to work ok - drove nicely.... so are these things above anything to write home about? Reasons to walk away, anything unexpected for these cars?

Thanks for your assistance - hope to join you all in ownership soon!

For interest, I am selling mine (see ad on Z3MCoupe.com). I have owned a coupe for over 6 years and, from all the others I have seen, the rust seems more than I would expect. Nothing too serious, but if you do buy it I would make sure that you strip off the sills, wings etc and make good on the undersealing. I would expect one in this condition to go for well under £20K
