Hi,
I changed the caliper as it binding and had worn the pad down, and around the same time both abs and brake warning lights came on, so I assumed that this was going to be sorted when i replaced pads etc. Got code reader today read above code, cleared code. But light still on, Vehicle speed sensor A.
Having searched many threads this seems to be a common issue with a wide range of solutions/issues. I need to get the MOT within next 4 weeks, are the lights going to fail it?, where should I start in terms of replacing parts?
many thanks
Simon

Its a vehicle speed sensor circuit malfunction, possible causes Wiring, VSS or ECM, I am pretty suer the speed sensor is located in the Diff, it is on mine anyway.

ABS light on would cause a fail, however brake pad wear light on would only be an advisory provided that the tester can see that any pads aren't worn down to 1.5mm or less. I'm not to sure how anyone can measure that with the naked eye to be perfectly honest.

Worth a try but unlikely to be the problem, I see vehicles with split C/V boots which have covered the sensors in grease and muck and they still "read" through all that. Most like if it's a sensor is that it's failed internally.

Hi Tony, well a day getting intimate with the wheel arches and cleaning sensors, well back ones, could not get front out and having no replacements didn't want to get heavy with them! Code still there, so a trip to the local independent to get a full read out and see what happens next, thanks for help, looks like this light combi is a common hassle of z3 ownership and has a number of causes, so never straightforward

If it's either of the front ones you will most likely have to destroy it to get it out, usually by drilling the centre out first then pickling the rest out.
Newer cars have the sensors located by a plastic type of insert which doesn't corroded into the hole, making removal much quicker and easier. Good luck.:)
