Head has been skimmed, new guides, new piston rings, etc, etc….

Head rebuild, skim, oversize head gasket, head set, valve stem seals, head bolts, new coolant pipe, spark plugs, new piston rings, front main crankshaft oil seal, rear main crankshaft oil seal, oil filter housing gasket, cam cover gasket, etc, etc

So, an "in frame" rebuild basically. If done properly that should work very well.

Pistachio is back on the road after major surgery..

Cylinder head chemical clean, strip exhaust gas ways and clean solid carbon, preheat and fit 24 new valve guides, ream guides, clean and cut 3 angle cut valves to seats, vacuum test and reface cylinder head.
Replace all 6 piston rings inc remove carbon build up from ring grooves.
New sump gasket.
New coolant pipe.
Top end gasket set, head gasket, head bolt set, new spark plugs, oil filter.
New lower timing chain guide and gaskets.
VANOS unit seal kit.
Top alternator belt idler.
etc… etc

Enjoyed those photos, out of curiosity did you opt for the same Piston oil ring or use the M52 ring ?

Here's one for you all. as Lee said money on the oil rings. One of our members 2.2 smoked like Bonds DB5 every time after a down hill on over run, once he touched the gas he disappeared in a blue haze and it used a lot of oil. Then we did a week in Scotland doing part of the NC500. After that run it stopped smoking and stopped using oil (well very little) Sometimes they just need a good long hard drive to de-gunk the oil rings that get gunked up with lots of short runs.

Went for M54 OEM spec rings.

Looking good. 50 mile drive and still clean. Before the work the tailpipes would have been black with soot and black specks all over the paintwork.
