Just had this tweeted at me, it's another Phoenix Yellow S54 going through Silverstone Auctions (not sure if it's happened or not yet! Less than 10k on the clock!

The unusual thing about this one is the interior, which is a real marmite combination! Kiwi/Black which I've never seen before, pics of that below...

Clearly we don't really like Marmite in our house this evening. Debbie reckons it hasn't done many miles as know body can bear to be in it...!

I think it's really nice, but being colour blind perhaps I'm not seeing what you're seeing. £33k is a lot of money but the way some cars are appreciating it wont be available for long

Love phoenix but that interior........:wideyed:. And as much as want to see our zeds go up in price I think £33000 is rather silly. o_O

Searching the little grey cells, I recall that BMW had about 6 S54s that were the first run press/demo cars. As the VIN is 64003 and mine is 64009 and was I beleive the first "legitimate" sale of an S54, I wonder how much care was taken with those first few critical miles? Hope it sells for silly money!

Hello @Southcoaster. You may want to introduce yourself properly on the "introduce yourself" page. Like to here more and see pics of your rare S54! :)

Hello Gaz,

The auction was on from July 28th to the 31st and the car went unsold, but not sure how far the bidding went on this vehicle. I think the pricing was on the steep side, especially when you see that it has an aftermarket exhaust and chrome pedals.

Looking at the S54 list, this was number four of the 73 and is listed as a Dev vehicle manufactured on 15/09/200. There were only two made with Phoenix yellow and Kiwi/black interior.

I'll try that again, cocked up the previous message!

Only 2 ever built with that spec. Well I can't honestly say I love the interior although I do love phoenix yellow. A very rare bird all the same, thats why they are pushing their luck with the price.

It appears from the service history that it's missed the running in service - the Internet says it's a very important service on this engine (which was highest specific output NA engine at the time).

Even if it had the running in service the service history is bad - it's been run for years on old oil- only 3 services in total.
On a normal car that's fine but these are known for bearing issues and now head gaskets due to tiny tolerances. It's probably ok but when asking this kind of money it's not want you want to see.
Maybe the owner did his own oil changes in the heated garage every year.

The pedals and exhaust appear to AC Schnitzer so approved and may have even been fitted by BMW but easy to revert to standard. Worth a fortune nowadays but on a collector car people prefer standard for sure.

The addition of chrome door handles and windscreen surround is odd on an M which is usually less chrome.

The thing that kills it for me though and why didn't bid is this:
image.jpeg

Insulation tape on the seatbelt guide and asking 33k!

Phoenix yellow is certainly marmite but on a sunny day and perfectly clean they do look great. Best on an e46 for me though.

So I think I'll put my wallet away and wait for a better one!

Jokes aside a lovely car nevertheless.

For 33K...you'd want it right.
but that's never going to see the light of day again.
it will be put away in a collection so i suppose the service history isn't going to matter to the buyer....it's not like it's going to see the track and that interior won't matter the the new owner as it's never going to fade from the UV or wear and tear.
but i guess that if you're going to fork out that kinda money then the little odd job won't matter to you..but it will all be about originality and be pulled out in another 20 years as a retirement bonus.
good luck to them...in 20 years we will be all cooing over it and love everything about it.
but if he reads this ...you're welcome to do the EVO with us anytime you want....
