With the soon to depart 3.0 Paul has chosen to give Ebbie a transformation. A complete front to back mechanical overhaul. This will be part 1. Part 2 will include removing the 2.2 engine and fitting a 2.8TU making it the only Estoril blue 2.8TU.

We started at the front and worked our way back. She’s been stored for a few years so was in a sorry state. Quite a few years ago we did a brake upgrade and fitted new shocks so luckily there is a few bits to save

This is Ebbie

Some very crusty undergarments

Not too bad rear end, other than beam bushes totally shot.

So first job was a complete strip out of the front end. Whilst doing this security were removing the sills.

The front came apart easily so the roll bars and braces etc will go for powder coating. Next we looked at what greeted us under those sills.

and the sills themselves. Luckily nothing too deep.

The sills are solid under the rust so they will be cleaned up and sealed in. The following day we then started on the rear. Again it only took a few hours and everything was off.

nothing looked scary. The brake lines crumbled so they will all be replaced. Fuel stank straps will also be replaced. Next we stripped the rear down so we could rebuild into the new swing arms and beam. These were pre built so didn’t take too long.

As it stands the car is completely stripped waiting for all the new parts to arrive. With the waiting we also have all the bits to drop off at the powder coaters so it won’t be till the following weekend when the wheels touch the floor at the earliest.

Watch this space :)

@Dino D obviously better than you can hedge cutter
What happens in the hedge stays in the hedge :stop:

I’ve got a bit of Brands hatch greenery under there now, it’s more like grass clippings to make a change from hedge bits =))

You going to like how it shifts with that engine and diff combo and will give you more reason to stop for coffee as you refuel at every services you pass:whistle:

Last two days we’ve been jumping between jobs. So many little time consuming jobs to do. Most of them are now complete we’re finally at the reassembly stage.

first job was stripping all the running gear back and getting everything off to the powder coaters.
98B1108D-AE67-453E-89FE-47DE515A79C7.jpeg

then it’s cleaning up all the old brakes and various brackets for painting. We even went as far as stripping the front hubs.

It was then time to clean up that dreaded sill. Luckily there were no holes just lots of surface rust, now ready to be treated and coated.

Tomorrow we will treat the sills.

This afternoon the new KYB springs arrived so we swapped them over onto the shocks ready for re fitting. We are removing the Eibachs for normal ride height springs for extra comfort.

Also plenty of life in the front discs we they also got coated.

Last job was sorting the exhaust flanges. I cut the old studs off ready for drilling tomorrow. Always a job I dread as it’s a right pain.

Worth noting up to this stage we’ve reached 20 man hours with two people

If you have a way of heating the exhaust flange red hot those studs knock out easily.

Normally that would work but two reasons why we cant here, first being both Lamda sensors are within inchs of the flange, the second is these studs are integral to the flange design so my only option is to drill them out.

Hope you have some good bits mate. Heat wouldn't hurt the lamda sensors.

Basic torch yeah, I've killed two burning my old bolts out using an acetylene torch. This was on the Z4 coupe.
