Okay, this is an odd one. I'm not recommending one side or the other (I can understand both sides), but saw an article online so looked for the link in case there are any 'Pro-'s' out there who would like to sign.

I did find it odd when I first returned to the UK to find out they wanted to insure the driver not the car. I suspect payouts are more related to whether your car is worth £5,000 or £50,000 rather than if you are 20, 40 or 60 years old.

So here it is for those interested . . .

Hmm not sure about this one, if the car is insured and someone nicks it then causes injury to another would the insurance be valid as its on the car respective of who is driving, and would it go against the owner for insurance cost increase, and then who is the vehicle owner, not necessarily the registered keeper as thats not proof of ownership. 🤷‍♂️

Too simplistic and opening worm cans.
Current insurance is usually based on both the driver and the vehicle to be driven, although there are policies where someone can be insured to drive any vehicle, as well as a vehicle insured for anyone to drive. These are far from the norm, but current thinking doesnt need to change
