10,000 people in the UK with more than 12 points on their driving licence! One with 62 points!! 62 points!!! 62 points!!!! OMG! :nailbiting: :wideyed: :woot:

For none Brits, ordinarily you lose your license at 12 points less you can demonstrate exceptional circumstances for you to keep your license.

It would be fascinating to see what counts as "exceptional circumstances". Apparently there is no official definition and it's up to each court to decide on a case by case basis.

Makes you wonder how many of those with successful 'exceptional circumstances' appeals are associated with 'wealth', 'fame' or 'connections in high places'. If you can afford the services of a top Barrister I bet your chances of success are somewhat enhanced!

How do you get 62 points? Driving while already banned?
I have read stories of young kids who have accumulated enough points for a ban, before they are old enough to get a licence.

Imagine declaring that you have 62 points to your insurance company! no insurance co. would touch them, this then begs the question, how are they driving!!!

I think it should be more, £1000 + 9 points, IMO its one of the biggest dangers on our roads.

Bang on and rightly so. I think it and all fines should be means tested to.

Confiscate the phone there and then for a month too. Give the information to the phone companies so they can put a ban on use of that number for the same period, refuse replacement SIMs and then charge £100 to get the phone back. Have insurers charge the owner for fraud if they try to claim for a lost phone on top. That would be more of a deterrent than a fine and points.

I would agree Andy stiffer penalties were definitely needed as i see people on phones all the time really annoying  as the tech to remain legal is cheap and readily available .

Can't believe it when I see people texting as they are driving, even worse than answering the phone. They are simply not looking where they are going, crazy!
