Hi All
I'm intending to buy another 2.8 Z3 when the current travel restrictions are over but so far the only ones I've seen advertised are a long way from where I live (SW Scotland), I don't mind travelling to view but how do I go about paying a private individual for one if I send a delivery company to collect it as I don't fancy trying to travel any great distance by rail at present to collect it myself. Any method I can think of requires a lot of trust from either the buyer or the seller.

Fairly simple if you go to look at the car then pay for it with a view to onward collection get the V5 transferred into your name online before you leave the sellers address. Take the keys with you and pass them onto the collection company. Assuming of course the seller will play ball and let you leave the car with him for a short while.

Though to be fair if you are buying off someone who has owned the car for a long time I very much doubt you'd get stitched up.

Hi @RonA and Welcome to the site from Glasgow. I'm originally from ayrshire myself and my good friend @Stevo7682 resides not too far from Ayr. I own a 2.8i myself as pictures < i will keep on the look out for something close to home. Any colour preference?

Hi Nodzed, thanks that's probably as good a way as any.
Hi Scooblitz, I prefer some colours more than others but there's not any I really don't like, I would rather buy on condition, I'm looking for a pre-facelift preferably but it's not a deal breaker, but definitely 6 cylinders.
Cheers
Ron

Hi and welcome from me in South Ayrshire :welcome:.
You just missed out on a topaz blue 2.2 sport that looked quite good for sale in Ayr saw it last weekend sold by Monday.
The great thing about this forum is once lockdown is passed there are a number of knowledgeable members on here who would be more than happy to look over a zed that was a few miles away and give you an appraisal before you committed to either going to see or buying it.
Any questions just make a thread in the appropriate forum section and people like myself and others will be happy to help.

Stephen.

We brought a lovely Z4 in October last year :)
It was 160 away from us :)
We went to view it on a Sunday ,by car we left about 7 in the morning :)
We left a deposit , took the log book and one key with us :)
The following Saturday we went to pick it up :)
We took cash with us :)
Because the bank said it could take a couple of days to clear over the weekend if we done a bank transfer :(
We got the train down their :)
Had to change the train 3 times at different stations :)
The man who was selling it picked us up from his local station :)
Then we drove the Z home :)
Then I was at work at 5 :):):):)

When I Got SWMBO's car, I just sent a £100 deposit by Paypal, then went by train to pick it up 300 miles away! and paid cash on collection.
Trouble with that idea is the bank. A few years ago i was buying a new boat , i said to the dealer as you dont know me i will bring cash— his comment g** no i have to pay the bank to deposit it in. When we came to pay i just did a transfer on my phone. Easy

I am surprised as in buying boat and cars the bank transfer has been immediate , you can check within minutes. If in doubt i understand you can use “faster” but i had no trouble with normal transfers. It also work instantly between family members.
