Hi, I'm about to start on changing my seat bushes, the drivers seat all works OK but unfortunately the backward/forward motor on the passenger seat doesn't work although it goes up/down OK, the question is how can I test the motor to see what the problem is? Preferably I'd like it working before I attempt to remove the seat as it will make it a lot easier to do, thanks Steve

You can try and feed it 12v direct if you can reach the terminals whilst the seat is in. Not sure how practical it is to reach while the seat is in place though.

You can disconnect the motor under the seat when removed and just apply 12v over the terminals to see if it runs could be the switch.

Thanks guys will have a look, looking at the seat today it appears to be right back as far as it will go as the front bolts are exposed, is it possible it is jammed? Sure I read somewhere it's possible? Steve

Might be worth tapping the motor with a small hammer while operating the switch.

Good shout Tony but no luck there, anyway I managed to disconnect drive shafts from the motor & remove the motor, it looks like someone has had a go at it in the past cos one of the little torx screws was missing. So anyway I took the front two seat fixing nuts off then began the laborious task of slowly winding the seat forward using one of the drive shafts in my battery drill about a half inch either side at a time till the rear seat bolts were exposed, the bolt head on the outside is rusty so I guess there has been some water getting in at some time all dry now though. The bolt on the transmission tunnel side looks a b*****d to get at how do you guys manage? Must be a bit of a struggle? The outer bolt is very tight so I've doused it in WD40 to leave overnight & will have another go tomorrow night.
Unfortunately being of the slightly ham-fisted persuasion I've managed to mangle both drive shafts so I will need 2 replacements on reassembly if anyone has a pair & probably a new motor? Steve

Personally I've used a 3/8"drive flex head ratchet with a long handle (10") and a shallow 16mm socket. If they've never been out they usually are FT.

The outer rear one started off ok but has gradually got tighter so I thought it better to get some WD40 in there & let it soak, haven't tried the inner one yet as I was trying to figure out the best way to get at it, so do you go at it from the back of the seat or from above down the side of the transmission tunnel?

I do them from the space behind the seat Steve. Sounds like you need to keep working them back and forth with liberal applications of freeing oil.

Don't forget the seat does have back rest adjustment. Make sure it's forward.

With the base and backrest forward it's not too difficult. Just find a position that is comfortable for you to get some purchase on it.

I don't have any seat base spares - sorry.

My passengers seat front/ rear motor wasn't working unplugged it multimeter on terminals showed power to motor.
I took out the motor without removing the seat .
Then decided to open it up as it wasn't working discovered 2 things firstly one of the two spring loaded carbon brushes had jammed in so with a bit of careful cleaning and a spot of lube got it moving freely again.
Second problem was one of the 2 magnets that are stuck to the outer case was detached ( make sure to mark fitted direction if remove for correct polarity on fitment) so reattached with a big of epoxy resin put it all back together refitted to car works good as new .
Should have taken some pictures for a how to guide.

My seat backs won't move?? You pull the lever up & nothing happens? Like neither lever is connected to any thing? Bit strange I know unless I'm doing something wrong?
