Is stuck and stuck high.

The odd passenger has remarked thjat they are riding a bit too high.
The electric seat track forward and back no problem, but does not go up and down.
The switch/button does seem a little loose when moving up and down and firm when pushed
forward and back.
Is there an easy way to detach the button or side to check for connection or is there a chance will i mess up the forward and back ?

See picture, you can see how high the passenger seat is riding

As far as I am aware, there is no height adjustment on the passenger seat.

The passengers side can go up and down on many z3, different motor fir each. But not an easy way of taking just the button off really.

Seat out and motor is easy enough though.

I've motors if you need one. And lower seat trim with button if you end up needing that instead.

I had the same problem with my passenger seat when I first got the car.. mine had what is a common fault.. when the seat is at its highest or lowest point the mechanism is at the end of the 'worm' screw thread and they can become stuck at these points.. especially if they haven't been adjusted for a while. For me the cure was to take the seat out - easy peasy two bolts and 2 nuts NOT FORGETTING (like I did) to tease the seat belt out of the guide beforehand (causing the guide to break) and make sure you take keys out of ignition before you disconnect the electrical plug underneath (otherwise you may get an airbag light come on after)

The seats are more cumbersome and heavy than you think so be careful not to damage your trim/bodywork when you lift seat out and having the roof down makes life far more easier..

Once you look underneath and see how it all works you will see where the mechanism has seized on the end of the worm and you can then use a spanner/molegrips to 'wind' the tread back a little bit which will hopefully free it all up

Hope this helps.. if it doesn't then its either the switch or the motor

I have the same problem. So useful for me too. On my winter maintenance schedule once the tax runs out after tomorrow.

Do you mean your button moves in the plastic seat surround which won't let the switch operate properly, I've got this problem with mine on drivers seat which I've to sort, every thing works it's just the switch lose in the hole. It looks like 3 screws to take seat trim off but I'm not sure how switch is attached yet. Sorry if I've got what you mean wrong.

There are 2 motors under the seat, forwards/backwards, up/down, you may well have something jammed under the runner, the outside button just pops off with a light lever, you can then see function buttons.
