Part query

Anyone know what this part is/does. Left front of engine.come off its mounts, but ok as sits in a holder. Rubber pipe has perished though I've noticed

That's an air pump, it runs on start up and adds air to the gases in the exhaust system to promote a complete burn.
You probably wont pass one of those inspections if it has a bad hose.

Its a smog pump, its not required so you can remove it, @t-tony does a blank for the removal

@Braz86 these were only fitted for the US market. Removing it will make no difference to the MOT Emissions test here in the UK. All you need to do is remove it and bin it. Block the vacuum pipe and tie up the electrical connector and fit a blanking plate on the cylinder head. Job done.

I’ve often wondered about that space in my engine bay. I’d clocked the bracket but had no idea what was supposed to be attached to it

My engine has a blanking plate on that port on the cylinder head Niall. I checked on OEM but no longer available or give a price. I posted pne to Gary this morning, thank you.

I think I was not clear I meant can I remove the pump off the Alpina and blank the head off the same as the Z3s? and do you do the blanking plate for the Z4?

I don't know if the pump can be removed from the Alpine to be honest Niall although I can't see why not. If you can PM me a picture of where the valve fixes to the head it would help.
