I have fitted the conventional units which go in the bumper, they didn't need painting as they are black like the car. They look similar to the ones fitted on most modern cars.
Those in your link look interesting as they are invisible. Someone needs to fit a set and let us know how good they are.

I fitted some on my Z4 A few weeks ago. Standard painted body colour type, fitting principle much the same. Have a look on my progress thread " My Z4 . . . . . My way"

Yeah, I'd be really interested in seeing someone test these. I have to make a few tight maneuvers getting onto my garage.

Search electro magnetic parking sensors on eBay them come as cheap as 7.95 for this type of sensor it appears to be a strip you mount to the rear of the bumper skin and it works in the same way as the ultra sonic ones.

I had no idea about these things. (10 year old technology ) The tests and reviews for them on YouTube are all really positive. Has anybody fitted one? Easy enough to fit the strip, just knowing where to route the wiring and mount the alarm. Seems they are wired to the reverse lights.

Reversing sensors become "live" when you select reverse gear (as long as your reversing light switch works that is) Most have a "wireless" remote display inside the car which needs an ignition fed live. Easy to wire up. Routing cables is just a matter of common sense really. The day I fitted mine I had never had the rear bumper off a Z4 so had no preconceived ideas about where to run the cables, I just made it up as I went along.

Any idea if the alarm is 'stereo'? I know I'm pushing it, but I love it on the X3 as you know from which corner of the car you need to worry about...

Nothing wrong with mirrors, but my wife is 5 foot tall, and has nowhere near the same angles to look around the car as I do.

Also, techy beep beep : good!

I received one of the cheapo ones from ebay. Mostly because I like taking stuff apart and figure out how they work. I'm thinking of installing one or two under the driveway paving slabs, with a 433mhz transmitter to ring a bell in the house when someone comes down.

That's the one I got: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282459839109 -- disassembly shows it's not fantastic, but on the other hand I've seen a LOT worse :) I'll hook it up to 12V tomorrow to have a play.

I'm confused o_OSo you bought a parking sensor to use as a burglar alarm/door bell? I don't know if I've got that right.. but I'm interested to see what happens next.

Ah yes, I did. I was curious about the electromagnetic sensor strip in question, and that sort of sensor could have many more uses than just plain reversing sensor. Also, I can pop it down in the driveway a lot quicker than I can remove the back bumper of the car. I still MIGHT put one in the car at some point, if they work good enough...
