Panel removal

Hi all, Z3 novice on the ear’ole again !

I think there is a bulb blown that lights the cigarette lighter bezel. Problem is how do you get to it?
I did look online but can’t find any info that relates to my car. I don’t want to go digging with a screwdriver as it’s far too easy to break off tabs etc. I thought it might be accessible through the gear lever aperture but how do you get the gear knob and gaiter off?

I might even remove it entirely (if I can get to it), and replace with a twin USB socket for the phone and satnav.
Would I need to change the fuse rating?

Unless you want to strip out the entire centre console, you should get reasonable access if you pull the gear gaiter out. Alternatively you can get your hand under the edge at the bottom between the side and the carpet.

Agree with Gaz . There is plenty of room if you just release the gaiter, no need to remove the knob. This is how I changed mine

Like they said, pull up the gaiter. Took my fag lighter out and fitted a twin-USB plug thing. Then had to fit a switch for it as there's an LED in there, and the lighter is permanently live. Couldn't be ar5ed finding an ignition-switch controlled wire in the area.

Hadn’t thought about the permanent live......I think I will just get access for now and fix the bulb......
