After parting with my Z3 in bits, decided to look to spending the funds and getting the Z4 painted.
Had the car a couple of years now. When i got the Z4 not the best example and have done many things to address that but all though mechanically sound i can not get away from the small scuffs and stone chips it acquired in its previous life. So what to do with a 2003 Z4 2.5 With 105K on the clock?
Now "my new pride and joy" it needs Bonnet, front wings and doors painting to bring it up to scratch, to get it right will need to include rear wings.
On recommendation visited an ex BMW paint sprayer, who turns out to be an old (well very old) friend from way back. Wants to do a top job but looking at £1000.
Financially i know the answer, IMO the car looks well for 16 years old, and brings me lots of enjoyment as it is. As a keeper though would like it to be better, is it worth it?

£1k sounds very reasonable for a properly carried out respray. I would suggest that the front bumper is included in the job. Where the top edge meets the hood will show any slight colour or variation in metallic lay down and bug you forever. Unfortunately to retrospecively correct this would need a bonnet, bumper and probably wing re-respray.

Definitely worth it. What's the alternative? Don't do it and you won't be satisfied, buy something else and you will definitely end up spending way more.

Reluctant to have bumper done as almost perfect and recently painted with a perfect colour match. Its where do you stop before it becomes a full respray

It’s a beaut of a car and it’s obvious you love it! If it was my car I’d definitely get it all done. I’d be very disappointed if the bumpers didn’t quite match and regret not getting it all done to begin with.

£1k is a very good bargain! I’d go for the whole car to be prepped and painted though.

I can only echo Keith's comment Paul. Also the front bumper comments, one thing in it's favour should be it would require minimum prep having been recently done. If it was slightly "off" you would not be happy with it mate, it would grab your eyes every time you looked at it.
A grand is a very fair price for what you need doing IMHO.

Tony.

£1k excellent price for a proper respray. But that doesn't answer whether you should do it - only you know that!

To put that figure in to context. I paid 2.5k for a full respray after deciding the zed is going no where. So if your keeping it then 1k to get it to how you want it to me is a no brainer if you are planning on keeping it. You can pay that figure just to upgrade the suspension
